Open Bar at Current

ASSI - A friend and I had the pleasure of attending a Happy Hour at Current where there was an open bar from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Current is located at 1215 Connecticut Avenue, NW. We had an enjoyable time, the DJ was really good; however, it was our first time. According to Current's site it is, Washington's newest sushi/lounge that combines a new intricately designed with traditional and modern Japanese cuisine. Current was developed with modern luxury yacht details in mind. Hardwood floors cover the "deck" and long glass bar tops glow to accent the wavy metal pieces below. Water tanks of moving colorful waves are set in the ceiling, enhancing the nautical theme.

Guest can sit at the open interactive sushi bar and watch as their chefs create innovative had rolls that showcase a modern twist to sushi. Traditional items such as miso soup, California and Dragon rolls are made to order. Seasonal fish and produce are brought in fresh from the finest global and local markets. A variety of fusion style hot dishes are also available. An extensive offering of sake, wine, beer , and signature cocktails complements, the menu.

Diners can continue their experience by traveling up the floating staircase to the upscale lounge area where a DJ spins Thursday through Saturday after 10 p.m. For those who want to see and be seen, you can reserved tables for bottle service.

An Evening at Oya's

ASSI - I shared with a friend that I really enjoyed dining at Kaz Sushi Bistro, how it was a nice experience and gave me a new perspective on Sushi; however, my friend stated she knew of a place much better than Kaz. She thought Kaz was just okay but raved about Oya, and vowed that we would go to Oya Restaurant and Lounge for Happy Hour someday, Happy Hour is from 5 - 8 p.m. Monday - Thursday. Oya is located on 9th Street, N.W. off of H Street near the Verizon Center in Washington, DC. Well, tonight was the night that I was exposed to Oya's for Happy Hour and Sushi, I was without expectations just open to a new experience, I like the White decor, andthe Lounge area was layed back and a relaxed atmosphere, it didn't seem ideal for eating sushi. We spotted a table with two foot stools in a corner, and made ourselves comfortable. At first I was wondering how it was going to work out, but after a couple of sips of wine and a Sushi Roll it was all good.

We had the Happy Hour, Red Wine, Salmon Tempura Roll, California Rolls, and Spicy Crunchy Shrimp Rolls that were all absolutely delicious. I even managed to eat my meal without dropping any rolls or making a complete mess using the chopsticks. My friend managed to drink enough water until she was too full to finish her share of the Spicy Crunch Shrimp Rolls, which was alright with me. I believe the Happy Hour specials are $6 or $7 dollars for each item, our bill was $52.00 minus the tip. I thought the service was good, but according to my girlfriend there is another waitress, who generally serves her and another group of friends that is a little more on top of things than the waitress we had tonight. As I See it, Oya's Restaurant and Lounge is in a good location, the metro is in walking distance, the clientele is working class folk, the wine was good for the house wine, and the food was scrumptious; therefore, if and when you're in the area and you like Sushi give Oya Restaurant and Lounge a try. I give Oya's 4.0 blinks.

Japanese Cuisine - Free Style

ASSI - We had the wonderful pleasure of dining at Kaz Sushi Bistro located at 1915 Eye Street, N.W. in Washington, DC. The walls are cream in one section, green in another, and the mahogany wood tables and chairs complimented the dining space that is quaint, comfortable, and well lighted. The Bento Boxes makes for a great presentation and makes the food look appetizing, but the food is extremely flavorful and taste better than it looks. We ordered Salmon Teriyake ($27.00) and the Grilled Chicken Breast Teriyaki ($25.00) Bento Boxes that were filling and delicious. We also ordered the Crunch Shrimp roll and Crunchy Salmon roll ($5) each for six small rolls that were tasteful, and we had the Saki special for $14.00 it was chilled and really good. Our waitress provided good service she poured eus a round, took our order, brought out the rolls, explained why one entree is recommended over the other, wrapped the extra food to go, provided service with a smile, and we learned tomorrow is her last day at Kaz Sushi Bistro. She is relocating to Germany. As I see the overall experience was fantastic all us thoroughly enjoyed our food and looking forward to a return visit and maybe next time we will skip the Rolls and have dessert. I give Kaz Sushi Bistro 5 blinks.
