The Color Purple the Musical
ASSI - Alice Walker's novel The Color Purple was adapted into a movie and is now a musical stage playing starring Fantasia Barrino , an American Idol Winner, on Broadway. I enjoyed the musical production, I had an open mind and was without expectations; however, I was unsure how a three hour movie adaptation would be as a musical, but the play was an enjoyable three hours, with a fifteen minute intermission. Fantasia is impressive in her role as Celie, she received a standing ovation for her performance. The music was good, no power house voices that made you stand up, hallelujahs and Amens, but appropriate and well done. The musical showed the tender, loving, and caring relationship between Celie and Shug Avery played by Elisabeth Withers-Mendes who gave a memorable performance. The role of Harpo and Sofia is currently played by Chaz Lamar Shepherd and NaTasha Yvette Williams will be an hard act for BeBe Winans and Chaka Khana who assumes their roles next month when they join the cast of the Color Purple to follow. The entire production is good from the stage scenes to the costume designs. You are transcended back in time to when a fourteen year-old girl prayed to God for a better life, but before her prayers are answered, her faith is tested, we witness the trials and tribulations, and celebrate her victories with laughter and tears. The Color Purple the Musical receives 4 blinks.

New England Becomes 4th Team In NFL History To Be Undefeated Through The Regular Season At 16-0
AHSI......History finally repeated itself 35 years later last night when the New England Patriots beat the New York Giants 38-35. This was definitely one of the best games if not the best game I have seen all year. The Giants came out at home and pounced on New England early. New York was actually winning throughout the first three quarters. Both Quarterbacks had great games and if Eli Manning had not thrown an interception, well, we just will wonder about that one.
Eli actually threw 4 touchdowns in comparison to the two Tom Brady threw to Randy Moss to set a 2 new NFL records for most touchdown passes thrown (50) for Brady and (23) pass receptions for Randy who broke the great Jerry Rice's record. The Patriots also set a team record in the NFL scoring (589) becoming the new single-season record holder for most points scored by a team.

American Lead Base Toys Made in China Should be Sold Back to China
AHSI......I am sick and tired of hearing the stories about lead base paint being found in toys sold in the USA. First of all, why are these toys still being made? Next, why are we (USA) still purchasing these toys from China to be distributed in our country? I feel that a lot of blame needs to be put on the Chinese government for not examining their products before they are sent out for distribution. Our government, with all of the rules in regulations we have to abide by as citizens, is not during a good job of quality control. Our kids are getting sick and even dying from things that are suppose to make them happy and keep them entertained. It is disappointing to find out how so dependent we are on one country that we are willing to sacrifice our society and keep supporting them by buying their products. Do the Chinese people use their own products or do they, like with their food and cars, sell us one thing and prepare something different for their own consumption? We spend a lot of money on items for our children so how will we be reimbursed?

I Am Legend Starring Will Smith
AHSI.....The movie I Am Legend starring Will Smith was a horrible movie with an awful plot. It was more of an Alien (starring Sigourney Weaver) meets Return of the Living Dead. Mr. Smith is a scientist working for the military and he is trying to find a cure for a disease that has been infecting the world. He has a fast car, a big gun, a German shepherd, as his sidekick and a bunch of sick demon like people to fight. I guess this storyline is suppose to keep the viewer entertained. "Big Willie" can roam the earth during the day but when it becomes dark he has to be careful and watch his back at all times. Will's acting was actually pretty good but not enough to make me enjoy this movie. AHSI gives this movie 1.5 eyeballs.
ASSI - Will Smith has good camaraderie with inanimate objects and move goers seem to enjoy their own screen chemistry. In I Am Legend, Smith is partnered with Jack, a German Shepard for most of the movie, Willow Smith has a small role as his daughter, and Sally Richardson Whitfield is Mrs. Robert Neville. Anything is possible but somethings are unfathomable like this movie, I am unsure if I am Legend is an adaptation, but for me, I would enjoyed it more as a book. There were times in the movie when Neville was unresponsive to the infected mutant victims, who wanted to infect the only immune human survivor with the plague. The infected mutants are sensitive to sun light, they try to lure Neville and Jack into the darkness, Neville makes every attempt to locate other humans, develop a vaccine to reverse the virus, and stay immune. As I see it I am Legend receives 2.5 blinks.

On the Big Screen: The Perfect Holiday
AHSI...... The Perfect Holiday starring Queen Latifah, Morris Chestnut and Gabrielle Union is a romantic comedy centered around a single mother, Ms. Union raising her three children. They meet Santa Claus, Mr. Chestnut who portrays the Knight Shining Armor, and all of the magical, corny at times, humor begins. AHSI gives this movie 3 eyeballs.
ASSI - Christmas is not the same without the ones you love, and the Perfect Holiday is a light hearted comedy with good intentions. Nancy (Union) is a divorcee with three children and her former husband J Jizzy (Murphy) is married to the music business. This is a nice family film that everyone can watch together, the story line is the same, but the acting is convincing enough to enjoy the movie. Queen Latifah is more than starring in the film, she is also producer and narrator. This film gives hope to aspiring screen writers and producers. The Perfect Holiday was a simple film with all the right accouterments to make it to the big screen. As I see it The Perfect Holiday receives 3.0 blinks

The Water Coach
The HydraCoach, made by Sportsline, is the world's first interactive Water Bottle. It calculates your personal hydration needs, tracks your real time fluid consumption, paces you throughout the day and motivates you to achieve and maintain optimal hydration. Doctors, nutritionists and fitness trainers all recommend that we drink more water yet there has never been a device to help us adhere to the expert's recommendations. The HydraCoach is the only product of its kind and a breakthrough in personal hydration monitoring.
HydraCoach was conceived from the personal hydration needs of inventors Craig and Kelly Perkins, both lifelong outdoor enthusiasts. In 1996 the two were attempting to hike to the top of Half Dome in Yosemite, amazingly just ten months after Kelly had undergone a heart transplant. During there descent Kelly became severely dehydrated, turning a triumphant comeback adventure into a nightmare epic, and putting Kelly back in the hospital. Knowing proper hydration is critical to fitness and health. Craig and Kelly set out to devise a tool to help individuals quantify, achieve and maintain optimal hydration. The HydraCoach is the result of their experience and vision and an evolutionary leap in hydration monitoring.
AHSI...The HydraCoach is very helpful in making you more conscious about the amount of water you drink. It helps you pace the amount of water you drink and also motivates you to drink the right amount of water your body requires. I usually drink more water in the morning, and now I am drinking more water constantly throughout the entire day. It is very durable, easy to set up and clean. I give this product 5 eyeballs.

ASSI....What a great concept, a water bottle that monitors your intake. The HydraCoach is a smart invention that eliminates the work of tracking your daily conception. It is a simple as selecting ounces or liter, pounds or kilograms, and 12 or 24 hours. Enter your weight, date, time, and the digital recorder provides a reading of the recommended daily hydration for your weight. You can set the timer to begin at the start of your day and it will monitor every sip until you stop it. I am a start/stop gal; therefore, I like to start the timer when I take a sip and then stop it when I'm done. Although, I start and stop, the Hydracoach continues to accurately monitor my daily consumption. I quickly adjusted to the specially designed mouth piece that prevents water from escaping, you must bite down on the mouth piece and suck to release a steady flow of water. I was so excited to try-out the intelligent water bottle that I hoisted in the air, bit down on the mouth piece, and started to drink. It was uncomfortable using the HydraCoach like a traditional water bottle, to me. I really like the look and design of the HydraCoach, all of the parts seem durable, and it is easy to disassemble and assemble. As an added bonus the screw on cap comes with a built in handle to carry the HydraCoach with ease. As I see it treat your body to what it needs, the water coach, and let your mind get on to other things. I give the HydraCoach five blinks.

Blige is Growing Without Pains
AHSI......MJB is back with another great album. From start to finish Ms. Blige gives you the fast paced dance grooves and the beautiful love ballads that we have all come to love. You can still feel the soul deep within her music but now it appears as if Mary is at peace with herself. The songs that I like are the duet with Ludacris and the ballad with Usher. Growing Pains also has its share of "Woman Power" songs, and help the men listen and understand what you need to do to keep your woman happy. This is a great gift for the special someone in your life. AHSI gives Growing Pains 4 eyeballs and I expect Mary to be nominated for a lot of awards in the near future.
ASSI - With no more drama in Mary's life many speculated the direction her music would take. Fans came to depended on the sorrows that plaque her life. Through the pain she delivered therapeutic hits with songs from My Life, What's the 411, and Share my World albums. Mary showed everyone that she is a talented artist who is capable of breaking through with feel good upbeat music relative to her life. I still listen to the Breakthrough album, Can't Hide From Love, MJB Da MVP, One, Ain't Really Love are a few of my favorites, and when I heard Just Fine for the first time. I thought, "what is Mary doing, a new album so soon, will she surpass the Breakthrough," to me, it was an exceptional album. However, Growing Pains will definitely grow on you, when I first began to listen the music was upbeat and then mellowed out around track ten, and track twelve What Love Is caught my attention. On Work That I was up working what I have, then I took a Grown Woman break during the duet with Luda, and was back up for my theme song feeling like a woman, given my amen to "Feel Like a Woman track four. Mary also teams up with Usher on Shake Down, a track that feels like it should be remixed, one or two rappers need to put their spin on this track. Brooklyn can spit a verse. I really like the positive energy of Growing Pains even the put you in your place relationship songs are positive. Talk to Me demonstrates that there is a time in your life when you must pump your brakes and stand for what's most important in any relationship, you. Mary has grown in all aspects of her life. As I see it take a moment with a glass of wine or your favorite beverage turn down the lights, and turn on Growing Pains for an enjoyable musical evening. ASSI gives Growing Pains 4 blinks.

Worth The Debate - Great Debaters
AHSI...... The Great Debaters is an educational film for all viewers to see. It takes place in 1935, and it tells the story of Mel Tolson (Denzel Washington) a college professor at Wiley College. He instills courage, teaches how to overcome fears and demands respect from his students. It shows a father, played by Forest Whitaker, trying to balance being a family man, a member of society and notable college professor. It reveals how living during that period and having new thoughts, views and opinions could also bring you harm. It depicts how certain groups think and react towards other groups causing racism to exist in our society. AHSI gives this movie 4 eyeballs.
ASSI - Denzel Washington has made the natural progression and joined the director's circle. More than anything I immensely enjoyed how Washington told the story. The Great Debaters is an Harpo Productions Film that exposes the world to a monumental debate that changed the face of the all-Black Wiley College, Marshal Texas, in 1935. First timer Nate Parker who plays Henry Lowe delivers a performance of a seasoned actor, but when you are on set with Oscar winners and you are hunger there is no better time to shine. Kudos to Mr. Parker. Ms. Jurnee Smollett, is Smantha Book with an E (Booke) has been doing her acting thing on the big and small screen for a while now, and as usual I was pleased with her performance, as an aspiring lawyer who is the only and first female to make Wiley College's debate team. She is a good actress who continues to improve. She also has great comedic timing, she is extremely funny, I like her in comedies as well. How ironic is that Mr. Denzel Whitaker would be cased in a film, directed by Denzel Washington, and starring Forrest Whitaker as his father Mr. James Farmer Sr., is impressive for his freshman film.
The Great Debaters is a history lesson that must be shared with people of all ages, the wardrobe captured the sophistication of that time period, the intelligence, courage, and willingness of a fourteen year old student, James Farmer, Jr. who stood up before a crowded audience on the campus of Harvard University and delivered a winning argument. Is truly an inspirational film that is sure to educate and inspire movie goers. As I see it make a date with your family to see the Great Debaters and debate about it over dinner. ASSI gives the Great Debaters 4.5 blinks.

X-Box 360
Happy Holidays to everyone. It's that time of year, for everyone who debated over getting the X-Box 360 or the Playstation 3, do your research, flip a coin, and try and find the best deal available for you. The X-Box has three different consoles to choose from. The basic model, the X-Box 360 Arcade, comes with wireless controller, 256mb and the av cable for Home theater system,TV,VCR and DVD connection. The X-box 360, comes with everything the basic console offers plus a headset, 20 gigs, network cable and standard HD network AV cable that connects directly to HD TV and also plays online. The X-box 360 elite includes everything that the previous consoles have plus the HDMI Digital AV Cable and 120 gigs. The Console and matching accessories are Black while the others are off White. The only complaint that I have heard or felt is that the controller is bigger than the PS3 controller, but after you play the game and become familiar with it, you forget about it. The X-box 360 also has a wide selection of games. If you are into sports, you definitely want to purchase Madden 08, NBA live 08 and Tiger Woods golf game. For the people who enjoy fighting games, I suggest Tekken, Mortal Combat and the newest boxing game on the market at the. There are casino games for the adults that play blackjack, poker and slot machines, shooting pool games and also bowling games. For the kids you have Pacman, educational games, Sponge Bob and Dragonball Z. The graphics are incredible, the animated characters are life like, and the sounds make you feel as if you're in the arena or at the actual event. AHSI gives the X-Box 360 4.5 eyeballs.

Greenwich Village Tile Tribute
ASSI - We came upon this beautiful display of tiles that are a tribute to the victims of 9/11 while riding through Greenwich Village in New York City. Each tile was individually painted by a-love-one of a World Trade Center worker. The Downtown and Uptown city gray line bus tour afforded us an opportunity to appreciate the various creative expressions featured throughout the city, and Gray Line Tours is a great way to get around the city while visiting for a week or weekend. On a cold November weekend, all bundled up for an up top ride of a Double Decker bus, the tiles were a burst of energy, and the colors jumped out at me. The reason alone was enough to capture this shot, plus it is a nice piece of art that is worth sharing. If you are familiar with tile tribute, we would love for you to share your thoughts. As I see it, when and if you visit Greenwich Village, you must locate the tiles.

Miami Upsets Baltimore and Win First Game of the Season
The Miami Dolphin's saved face by beating the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. With the 1972 Miami Team, that went undefeated, watching the game, the Dolphins played like they had a purpose. Jason Taylor, Defensive player of the year, put his team on his back and some how willed a win. After the Raven's complained about the referees all week because they let the game against the Patriots slip through their fingers, who are they going to blame for this mishap.
First of all the Head Coach and the offensive coordinator need to be fired. Next they need to draft a quarterback and pick up a quarterback during free agency or trade for a quarterback because they never had a great quarterback to lead them. They always relied on their defense and in this day and age of the NFL, you need to be able to score points. Last but not least, they need to get a great wide reciever and better offensive linemen to keep defenses off their quarterback.
The Miami Dolphins need to build on this win and hopefully they can get another one before their season is over. The need to take all of the suggestions I gave for the Ravens and apply the same parts for their team next year.

Brooklyn At Night
ASSI - A night tour of New York City is a lightful treat, especially the Brooklyn Bridge. A Gray Line bus tour is the best way to see the city. You can hop-on and hop-off for two days, except the night tour. As we walk along Church Street after exhausting ourselves on Canal Street, we were looking for the next subway stop when we happened upon a tour bus. It was 7:30 p.m. and we were on the last bus headed across the Brooklyn Bridge , the night tour is approximately 2 hours starting at 6:00 p.m. We were inspired by the night images that we decided to end the tour at the Empire State Building to really appreciate the sparkles of the lights. As I see it there are experiences in life we must have and seeing New York City at night is definitely one of them. Tours are good for historical content, which is always useful trivia information.

Baby Swing Upgraded!
ASSI - When my baby enjoyed the pleasures of a swing, I had to crank the handle for it to swing back and forth, place a pillow on the inside of the seat to support her from slumping over, and I remember having to assist with an occasional push to keep the rocking momentum going. If you are unfamiliar with the modern swings then Fisher Price Nature's Touch Cradle Swing pictured to the right is a top of the line swing. I was impressed with the design, it has a built in mobile, battery operated with remote control, ergo dynamic cradle seat that not only swings back and forth it also swings side to side, it is plush, and accessories are included. Our friends say that it is one of the most sought after swings on the market and they are extremely pleased, but more importantly the baby enjoys his time in the swing. I am unsure of the cost, but as I see it from the looks alone it is worth looking into. If you are looking to purchase an ideal baby gift the Fisher Price cradle swing seems a perfect gift for parents and baby.

Notable Celebs NYC Cribs
ASSI - While enjoying a wonderful exploration of the big city, the tour guide was providing useful tip information. One of the sights on the route was the exclusive address of the stars. According to the tour guide two very famous men call this building home, one is married to the gorgeous Catherine Zeta Jones and the Hottest Chick in the game wears the others chain are neighbors. Right about the leaves is where these two men reside when living in the city. We are unsure of there is any validity to the tour guide stories but nonetheless they were entertaining and worth a snap shot. As I see it a city tour is always enlightening and should be experienced, just in case there is a hint of truth to the confessions of the tour guides.

40/40 Club in NYC Packs Them In
ASSI - My cousin and I wanted to have a drink and hang-out at the 40/40 club in New York City. I had the pleasure of shouting Happy New Year at the Atlantic City location this year, which was a blast. The layout was basically the same but the NYC seemed a tad-bit larger, to me. I was curiously anticipating the climate of the club. to my surprise there was complimentary entry and no hype line. Upon opening the door we were swept away in a see of people, unprepared for human heat, I checked my coat, and my cousin opted to wear hers. We managed to walk on glass and squeeze our way through the crowd to see every room and dance floor. The private rooms were equipped with pool tables, video games, and flat screen televisions. There were a number of birthdays celebrated and private sets were set-ups here and there. I am unable to comment on the drinks, reaching the bar was impossible. I really thought that we could go out have a drink, hear good music, and dance but there were so many people that when there a spot to post-up, we did until asked to vacate that spot, which was fine until a worker escorting a busboy carrying a bin of ice shoved folks aside using both arms. I lost my footing and stumbled into a couple of people that prompted a walk to the coat check for my coat that I had to locate. As we made our exodus there were people still waiting there turn to enter. As I see it, if you like crowds you will have an enjoyable time at the 40/40 club in NYC.

Tips for Wintertime Driving
AHSI......Wintertime is here, and for the states in the USA that must deal with snow, here are a few tips that have helped me through the years.
Give yourself an extra half hour to warm up your car, scrape the ice/snow of your windshield and also to inspect your car. Watch your local news to avoid the troubled spots and to learn a possible better route to take. Always BEWARE OF ICE. Black ice is when the pavement appears to have a shiny coat that looks as if it is merely wet. If you have room in your parking lot, street or driveway, drive your car and try what I call the brake test. Start driving and then hit your brakes. This will show you which way your car will slide and/or pull towards another vehicle while driving. Also pull up your emergency brake, this will help you understand how your brake will lock up and act in the snow/ice on the street/road. Then put your car in reverse and do the test.
Car Maintenance....... Make sure you have an oil change and your fluids checked every three months. If you prefer an extra month or two in between oil changes, then I suggest you try synthetic oil. It helps save gas plus you gain better gas mileage per gallon. It enables your car to pick up speed faster and run smoother. It costs approximately $20 more than the average oil change, but it is well worth it. Always keep extra fluids available. Make sure you have a jug of antifreeze, de-icer windshield fluid, at least a quart of the oil, an ice scraper, 1 bottle of fuel injection cleaner/fuel line cleaner, and a pair of windshield wipers. I recommend that owners of pick-ups place a cinder block or 15lb sand bag in the bed of the truck to prevent fish tailing. A small bag of sand or salt is useful in all vehicles for snow and ice to sprinkle as you walk to avoid slips and falls. A small box in the trunk of your car should also contain a flashlight, blanket, flares, tire repair kit, spark plugs, fan belt, and water.
Check your tires, for most of us, it is probably time for 4 brand new tires. Depending on which state you live in, you have a choice of winterized or regular tires. Make sure you check your spare tire, and if you have trunk space replace the donut/small spare with an actual tire. This allows you to change your flat tire with a tire and keep right on trucking.
Always compare prices by surfing the net or visiting your local stores like Walmart, Pep Boys, Advanced Auto, Sears, Sams Club, BJ's, Costco and Autozone to name a few. Remember the Golden Rule, If you take care of your car, your car will take care of you.
Give yourself an extra half hour to warm up your car, scrape the ice/snow of your windshield and also to inspect your car. Watch your local news to avoid the troubled spots and to learn a possible better route to take. Always BEWARE OF ICE. If you have room in your parking lot, street or driveway, drive your car and try what I call the brake test. Start driving and then hit your brakes. The Sphere After 9/11
ASSI - The Sphere that once stood in the center of the Austin Tobin Plaza between the World Trade Center Towers is now temporarily located in "Battery Park." Although the falling debris from the towers, damaged the Sphere, created by German sculptor Fritz Koenig, is still physically intact. I was unaware the sculptor was relocated, I recall see it prior to 9/11, and to see it still standing was a pleasant surprise. If only the towers were constructed with the metallic used to sculpt "The Sphere" more lives would have been saved. It stands proud with all of its bumps, bruises, cuts, and scraps it stands strong to remind us that we are people who will endure and overcome, and when the dust settles we will still be standing. As I see it, take a moment while making your way to catch the ferry or while just chilling in Battery Park to appreciate the sculpture.

Cheescake Junior Style
ASSI - While visiting New York City, I had a craving for something chocolate, sweet, moist, and delicious, so I ask the hotel manager where could I indulge my desire? Without hesitation he answered, "Juniors." All I could think of while walking to Juniors was "I hope it's worth it." When I arrived at Juniors there were three friendly staffers behind the counter. All of the cheesecakes on display looked appetizing and I did not want to ponder such an important decision. I asked the employees their favorites and they each responded with, "Devil's Food Cheesecake," so I had to try it. It was everything my palate was hungry for and more. I consumed a slice over the course of an entire day. Although I thought it was rather outrageous for Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, to request contestants competing for his MTV Making the Band, to walk to Brooklyn for cheesecake. I do understand why someone who prefers Junior's cheesecake would send for one. As I See It you must give Junior's Cheesecake a try, and the "Devil's Food Cheesecake" receives 4.5 blinks. Have you tried one of Junior's cheesecakes? Share your experience with us. Faith Hill Live on The Today Show
ASSI - Faith Hill performed live for the troops outside the "Today Show", Matt Lauer, Meredith Vieira, and Ann Curry were sheltered from the cold and rainy temperatures. Al Roker is the weather man an even he made a quick appearance and a quicker exit. The producers were kind enough to provide a few loyal fans with NBC ponchos. The photographers snapped countless photos of fans, their signs, and anyone who was close enough to get a shot. As a, "Today Show" parting gift, your photo is available for $30.00., or if you were fortunate enough. There were twelve complementary 12" blow-up, Hard Rock Cafe, promotional guitars distributed. Faith Hill's singing help to subdue the pain in my fingers and toes. My cousin who is a "Today Show" fan wanted to experience the show, and of course to appear on television. The weather prevented the camera men from recording adequate footage of audience B roll. As I see it there are ways to shelter the fans from soaking rain drops, but I guess if you're willing to stand out there why should they provide shelter. Although it was cold and wet, we decided to have a New York City experience and fulfill a desire, and for that--it was worth it. As I see it all "Today Show" fans should visit Rockefeller Plaza and participate in the live taping of the "Today Show"; however, if it is raining cuddle up in bed and turn on television, you will see and enjoy the show much better. Trust me!

Bubba Gump Out of Shrimp Ideas
ASSI....Although there is one hundred and one ways to eat shrimp, Bubba Gump's menu seems to say the same. I experienced Bubba Gump for the first time while visiting Miami, Florida. However, fast forward three years and if you remember any of the shrimp dishes you can place an order without previewing the menu. The classics shrimp scampi, stuffed shrimp, and steamed shrimp are crowd favorites that will forever remain on the menu. While visiting the New York City location, I'd hope for a different Bubba Gump experience, but my only surprise was pomegranate margaritas were on the menu, which was more interesting than good. Turning the Forest Run and Forest Stop sign provided entertainment between conversations, so we ate, settled the bill, and exited the restaurant. As I see it Bubba Gump lacks Time Square appeal, the only thing going for it is location. We had two different servers one took the order while the other collected the check, I guess one good server out-of two is not bad. Bubba Gump was a two blink experience.
