Thunder Grill for Happy Hour

ASSI - Thunder Grill in Union Station located in Washington DC is an ideal spot for happy hour you can have a beer for $2.00 or $2.75, rail drinks for $3.75, and frozen margaritas for $4.75. The appetizers are $4.00 for cheese nachos, cheese quessadillas, and hot wings that are rather tasty but sometimes too salty. The bartenders are all men except for Joanna who is the only woman and Ross is the only heterosexual Black male behind the bar. Despite of sexual orientation the bartenders are extremely good looking, are on first name bases with most customers, and make really good drinks. I prefer sitting at the bar where the atmosphere is friendly, the patrons seated at the bar are generally down-to-earth, and often have spirited conversations with people who are traveling via Metro train, Amtrak, Marc train, and the VRE commuter train stop in and have a drink prior to catching the train. There is also a number of locals who simply stop in because of the friendly environment and the drink specials. I am there more than I should be at least twice a month on a Friday for about two hours. As I see it Thunder Grill receives 4.0 blinks. If and when you are in Union Station stop by Thunder Grill for a drink or two but make sure you allow someone else to do the driving.

Black Squirrels Indigenous to Washington, DC

Black squirrels are extremely appealing to the eye with their shiny dark coats. They are a melanistic morpheme that scientist refer to as “Color Morph” The only distinguishable difference is their color; however, some believe Black Squirrels are more aggressive than the Gray or White Squirrels, but studies have shown there are no behavioral differences.Prior to residing in DC, Blacks squirrels had gone unnoticed; we have traveled all over the world, but to no avail. Lived in Connecticut, Florida, and we simply do not recall seeing them in Mitchellville, Laurel, or even Hyattsville Maryland other places we have lived. We were unaware that 18 Black Canadian Squirrels were released by the National Zoo during Theodore Roosevelt’s presidency.According to the Smithsonian’ archives, the National Zoo received Black squirrels in 1902 and in 1906 from “The Department of Crown Lands” in Ontario, London. There is much speculation as to why the District received the squirrels. Some believe it was to increase the population of local Gray squirrels, which were decreased due to hunting. To our surprise we learned there are a number of towns from Council Bluffs, Iowa to Stevenage, UK that boosts about having Black squirrels.The town of Marysville, KS named the Black Squirrel its official mascot, holds an annual Black Squirrel celebration, and in 1987, the “Black Squirrel Song” became the Marysville’s official anthem: “Lives in the city park, runs all over town, the coal black squirrel will be our pride and joy, Many more years to come.”Although Black Squirrels are not indigenous to Washington, D.C., we are on the look out for Black Squirrels as we travel the world. Rosa Mexicano

ASSI - The Rosa Mexicano was not my first choice for Mexican food, I was in the mood for the Red Sage a Mexican restaurant located on the corner of 14th and F Streets, N.W, but to my surprise white paper outlined with blue painters tape adorned the windows. Locating convenient street parking downtown, D.C. on a Saturday afternoon can be challenging on event days at the Verizon center, especially if you do not have coins for the meter. In spite of the Delirium, A Cirque du Soleil Live Music Concernt at the Verizon center, parking was not an issue. There were a number of people enjoying their meal on the patio, the bugs were somewhat kind, the space between tables lacked proper elbow room, the complimentary nachos and salsa came as an appetizer; however, the manager removed them from the bill. I had chicken quasadia, tortilla was flavorful, but the chicken - it headed for the boarder. Althought the drinks were small and pricey, they were quality drinks, and the service was okay.

ASHI - The Rosa Mexicano was a interesting experience. The restaurant had a beautiful ambience as soon as you walk in. We chose to sit outside, patio view, to enjoy the beautiful sunny day with a breeze. The service was fair, young staff, well groomed and neatly dressed. There was a bit of a language barrier due to the fact that most of the staff were foreign. I felt that there were not enough items on the menu. The drinks were small in quantity but large in price. I chose to have the soup and two Grand Mariners as a meal. I am not a big fan of Mexican food and I was hoping that they would have a larger selection on the menu.
