Star Island - Miami's Home to the Stars

ASWI -Take a cruise around Star Island aboard the Pirate ship, a sightseeing excursion offered by Aqua Cruises for $14.00; however, if you listen to a time share presentation. You will receive a $7.00 admission ticket. While visiting South Beach, Miami, we decided to tour Star Island. the tour is an hour long and provides a back yard view of Julio Iglesias, Ricky Martin, Madonna, P. Diddy Combs, Tiger Woods' lot purchased for 12 Million dollars just for the land, and Davis Thomas the founder of Wendy's Daughter's house to name a few. Food and drinks are offered on board and the seating is ideal for sightseeing. You can also purchase a souvenir picture of your party and the pirate that is covered in this picture. At the end of the tour you can purchase the picture for $5.00 with photo folder frame that also contains pictures of the Stars home, just in case you neglected to bring a camera. However, personal pictures taken with the Pirate is not permissible.

We understand why Shaquel O'Neal is insisting on keeping his Miami home. He and his wife Shauney are divorcing and their Miami home is less than ten minutes from American Airlines Arena via road or water. According to the tour guide, The Rock lives next door to Shaq and Rosie O'Donnell. Shaq has a bobble head doll on his board walk that marks his territory.

The criteria for residing on Star Island is 1. Have, not access to, Ten Million Dollars, and 2. You must be a Star. Is what the tour guide told us, but he also said that there are prominent doctors like Philip Frost whose home is pictured (right), and entrepreneurs who reside on Star Island and their mansions are larger than the Stars.
A number of movie scenes were filmed on Star Island. Meet the Fockers starring Dustin Hoffman, Barbara Streisand, and Ben Stillar is pictured (left); Any Given Sunday with Jamie Fox and James Todd Smith; Fast and the Furious, Scarface with Al Pacino, and of course Miami Vice. The Island is an oasis of mansions and Pirates Adventures is one of many cruise excursions that visit Star Island. Although the cost of admission is reasonable, but $14.00 to tour the backyards of Star homes for an hour is less attractive than, if the general admission was $7.00 a person, and offer the time share participants complimentary tickets.

Hands Down, Randy Moss is the Real #81

AHSI.............The Showdown of the two best wide receivers took place two weeks ago, and we all saw that Randy Moss is the better receiver so far this year. Keep in mind, I think T.O. is an outstanding player and the last time these players went at it, Moss was at Oakland and T.O. was an Eagle. T.O. was the better player. Even though their numbers were fairly similar when they played head up, the main reason why I chose Randy, as the better player so far this year, Mr. Moss has less drops and more TD catches through six games. Plus the Patriots beat the Cowboys head-to-head. Also, all you have to do is throw it up in Randy's vicinity and he will come down with the ball. Sorry Dallas fans but your boys were exposed last week, and I think New England is on pace to go undefeated. We will see when New England plays Indianapolis in a couple of weeks.

ASSI - A trade to the New England, Patriots served beneficial for Randy Moss, who is redeeming himself from when he played with the Oakland, Raiders, but what would you expect with Tom Brady as his quarterback. Randy Moss and Terrell Owens are two best wide receivers in the league. T.O. has definitely improved since parting company with Philadelphia, Eagles and signing with the Dallas, Cowboys. I was told, if the ball touch the glove, it is a caught ball, and T.O. has dropped too many money balls for me. It may be a little unfair to place all of T.O's dropped balls on his inability to catch all of Tony Romo passes. As I see it Randy Moss is the better receiver and is only going to increase his numbers as the season continues. However, I am looking forward to seeing both men run down field for the football.

At The Movies - Why Did I Get Married?

ASSI – Why did I get married? A Tyler Perry film that explores the unspoken truths of four married couples who met while in college, reunite for a couples retreat with unresolved issues, which are revealed during the most inopportune time--dinner. Perry writes scripts that afford him an opportunity to work with actors and entertainers who he admired as a child and while a struggling artist. As a writer, he writes each character with an actor already in mind, hence Janet Jackson’s character Patricia a well organized therapist who has everything together until too many task proves fatal. Tyler wanted to work with Jackson, so he made it possible, and he has Janet to thank for his new love interest. No name at this time, but supposedly he met her at one Jermaine Dupri’s parties. I am a Tasha Smith fan. Therefore, I was pleased with her performance, as Angela the overzealous alcoholic, who loves to put others in their place until she is put in her place. Smith owns an acting studio where she teaches acting. Jill Scott, plays Sheila is an overweight woman verbally abused by her cheating husband who is truly hating on her. Diane is an attorney married to the firm and family life is impeding her progress, is played by Sharon Leal. Tyler does an equal job of casting great eye candy opposite the attractive female cast. Perry plays Terry a dentist who is craving for a son; Richard T. Jones (Mike) is the verbally abuse husband who is truly a tall glass of chocolate milk; Michael Jai White (Marcus) is the former athlete, turned hair stylist with baby mama drama, who is married to Angela; and Malik Yoba (Gavin) is a successful architect who is sensitive and carrying husband to Patricia. Perry has a formula for producing quality films on a low budget. Why Did I Get Married? Is an entertaining short film that could have been better, Perry is better behind the scene, Janet’s character could have displayed more depth, and each story could have been embellished a bit more. As I see it, comic relief is good for the sole, and “Why Did I Get Married?” is worth seeing on the big screen with a box of pop corn and a date. I give it 3.5 blinks.

AHSI.... Gives Tyler Perry's new movie Why Did I Get Married? 4 eyeballs. This movie is based on the trials and tribulations of adult relationships, and the emotional toll it takes on each couple. I was pulled into the story because it deals with real life issues that you can relate to. It does not focus on the visual expect of sex but about four different successful couples that have known each other for years. You come away feeling like you know someone that acts like or resembles someone in the movie. The characters are your friends who you went to high school and/or college with, that are now married with a totally different lifestyles. It deals with the various issues of weight, loss of a close relative, children and parent drama, sex, alcohol abuse, cheating spouses and mental cruelty. I would recommend this movie for the grown and sexy. It provides a wide range of emotions from laughter to tears.

Graduation VS Curtis...No Contest, Kanye's CD is still outselling Fifty's

AHSI.....50 Cent vs Kanye West..... Kanye wins hands down. Although they are two
different artists, Kanye's CD Graduation has more hits than Fifty's Curtis CD.
If you like hard core hip hop, Fifty definitely has the harder album but if you enjoy music for the grown and sexy with a different style, then Kanye's CD is for you. The songs that are sure winners beside the singles we hear on the radio are the duet with Fifty and Mary on Curtis and the tag team combo of Kanye and Lil Wayne on Graduation. The best song on Curtis is Get Money while on Graduation you have your choice between Can't Get My Money Right or Big Brother. As we see it Curtis receives 2.5 eyeballs and Graduation 3.5

Look Under the Skin and Inside Bodies...

ASSI - Bodies…The Exhibition is an exciting display of the inner makings of the human body. The skeleton frame, muscle definition, fatty tissues, and organ parts of the human body is familiar to all of us. However, Bodies does wonders for exposing healthy and cancerous organs, and if you’re a smoker the lung display may cause you to toss your cigarettes in the bin next to the display. There are nine exhibit rooms with encased organs and actual standing figures to provide an in depth look at human organs. It takes about an hour to tour the entire exhibition that begins with the dominant species, a quick cover of the female anatomy, and ending with the start of life. Regardless of your feelings on abortion the embryo exhibit was rather touching. There are fetus exhibits that began at four weeks until birth, you see an outer image, and you see an inner image marrow and all. One of the more interesting displays was a scanned body image that was reminiscent of an extent dinosaur bone display. Have you seen a fetus with external organs? What does your Central Nervous System look like? Can you image encountering human skin without a body? You will see that and more at Bodies…The Exhibition now on display at the Dome in Roslyn, VA until October 14, 2007. Bodies the exhibition is on a national tour in selected cities and countries, please click on http://www.bodiestheexhibition.com/ for other locations. As I see it Bodies…The Exhibition receives four blinks.

AHSI- The Bodies Exhibition is an interesting museum displaying all parts of the body and how they work simultaneously together. It shows the different stages of life displaying the developmental stages of the embryo to the fetus and it also shows death by all types of cancer and other diseases found inside and outside of the body. It was a very educational experience that at times, reminded me of different things that I had been taught over the years. I was able to see it up close and personal. The Exhibition is less than thirty minutes in traffic from Washington DC. The Museum was very modern and divided into approximately nine sections. I would recommend the exhibit to all tourists, especially those interested in biology, science, physical therapy/education and anthropology. If you wish to show a child or a smoker, what affect their organs (skin, heart, lungs etc.) will have if they’re not cared for properly. I give the museum 3 eyeballs.

Ambi - Skincare Bleach Facial Hair

ASSI - I was in search of a reliable over-the-counter facial product that would prevent a trip to the mall for facial cleanser. Ambi Skincare is priced right, promotes my basic needs, and can be purchased at any drug store, Walmart, or Target. I gave it a try, and Ambi Skincare products bleached half-an-inch of my hair starting at the hair line up, and the fine hairs on my face. As I continued to use the products, my hair turned Blond, which was extremely noticeable due to my complexion, and original hair color. As I see it - until the ingredients are improved avoid direct sun light when using Ambi facial cleanser and moisturizer. I give Ambi Skincare products one blink.

Now on DVD - I Think I Love My Wife and Perfect Strangers

ASSI - Chris Rock has a knack for taking old movies and upgrading them to todays' era. Rock must spend countless hours watching old films in search of that one film that he can creatively rewrite. I Think I Love My Wife is a remake of the 1972 French film "L'Amourl'apre-mide. Rock plays Richard Cooper a married man who thinks life is rather mundane and routine with his wife Brenda Cooper (Gina Torres) and their two children. He has an ideal picture family, an attractive wife and children, house in the suburbs, and successful career that he is content with until Nikki Tru (Kerry Washington) a friend from his pass ignites some excitement into his routine life. Nikkie is the former girlfriend of Cooper's friend; therefore, she is off-limits for two very good reasons. However, his attraction to her causes him to question his feelings for his wife who takes good care of the children and the house but does nothing to entice and excite him, which makes it easy for Nikki to lure him away from the things that matter the most his family and work. Richard is rather green when it comes to a monogamous friend to an attractive single woman who toys with his emotions. I think I love My Wife is a fun adult movie that is good for comic relief. It also provides a hint of realism and provides couples with a glimpse of what can happen if you neglect your home. We saw I Think I love My Wife on the big screen and rented the DVD, he went to sleep in the theater, and did not remember the movie. I enjoyed the film both times; however, it was funnier at home, I actually heard all the punch lines.

AHSI....I Think I Love My Wife, starring Chris Rock, Kerry Washington and Gina Torres is a great funny adult relationship movie. Rating 4

ASSI - I really enjoyed Perfect Stranger mostly because of the plot, there is noticeable foreshadowing but because I was unsure how the story would unfold. I was more pleased with the story than the acting of Halle Berry and Bruce Willis, I am somewhat bias when it comes to good looking Gary Dourdan who plays Halle's ex boyfriend who slept with her childhood friend or so you think, and I think Giovanni Ribis is one of the most talented actors with depth and range plays a gadget geek who will do anything for Rowina Price who is an investigative reporting searching for her best friend's killer, she suspects that Harrison Hill (Bruce Willis) is the killer. She devices a plan to attract and trap Hill but is unsure if she has the tools to lure Hill into an Internet chat, and from their the plot thickens and you are left wondering, who, what, and why until the answers are revealed. No Oscar winning performances but convincing enough to deliver a suspenseful thriller that is worth the rental fee.
AHSI.....Perfect Stranger, starring Halle Berry and Bruce Willis is a riveting suspense thriller with a surprise ending. Rating 4

Jefferson's Monticello

I imagined Thomas Jefferson walking the grounds of his inherited 3,000 acres of land along the Rivanna River feeling literally on top of the world. Monticello is an impressive estate that took Jefferson 40 years to complete, much thought was given prior to, and during the construction of Monticello. Thomas Jefferson was highly influenced by European styles, textiles, and designs and incorporated them all when designing Monticello, a two story, eight-room house that he began transforming into a three-story house in 1796 inspired by a structure he saw in Paris. While expanding the house to accommodate a second floor, Jefferson also added a dome over the front west side of the house, which was the first for an American house. Therefore, the image on the back of the nickel is the back of the home instead of the front. The main house is connected to South and North pavilions with terraces, under the terraces are all-weather passageways to the kitchen, cook’s room, smokehouse, two slave quarters, dairy, and a service room on the south side. On the north side was the ice house; stables, carriage house, and wash house were “dependencies” areas where domestic/enslaved people were instrumental to the functioning of the main house. Jefferson inherited 150 plus slaves with the land and they worked the farms, helped construct the house and outbuildings while performing house duties.

Jefferson is a founding father of the Declaration of Independence and likely the father of his slave Sally Hemings’ children. A subject that has been debated for more than two centuries, a DNA test did determine that there was a genetic link between the Jefferson and Hemings’ family; however, the evidence is not definitive enough for the heirs of Jefferson to share his burial ground with the Hemings. A request the Hemings’ family made when it was determined that Jefferson was the father of Hemings’ eldest son Eston who was born in 1808. The grounds of Monticello are absolutely beautiful there are orchards, vineyards, vegetable gardens, mulberry row that leads you the Jefferson Gravesite, and the flower walk makes the garden and grounds tour an enjoyable stroll. A visit to Monticello is a great way to spend the day and the best time to tour the property is in the evening. Signature tours are offered to small groups of twenty, the tour begins promptly at 6 p.m., on top-of-the mountain, and a special tour of the dome is included. The dome is an empty room without any visible views but the only room in the house where photos can be snapped due to copy right issues. Although photos are prohibited in the house, there are artifacts in the basement, the dependencies, and the lush green grounds to photograph. However, bring a tape recorder and ask plenty of questions, there are two knowledgeable guides who seem to be passionate and excited to share tidbits of Jefferson’s legacy, and their information will save you a trip to the gift shop. This was a three blink experience for me.

AHSI......The visit to Monticello was an enjoyable experience. The tour was very infomative and it afforded me an opportunity to experience how our forefathers shaped the country that we now live in. When you arrive at the huge plantation, the first thing you notice is how huge it is while it is sitting on over 3000 acres. Thomas Jefferson was a scholar who possessed one of the largest privately owned libraries. In his home there are countless books, maps, paintings and other artifacts from all over the world. The gardens that he kept were well documented and you can see how agriculture was very important then as well as now. You can also see the great influence that the European culture had on our forefathers, through the architecture, tools, science and religious beliefs. The family plot is also located on the property, along with the slave quarters and the stables that housed the farm animals. You will also learn about Thomas Jefferson's extended family, and his children born to his slave Sally Hemings who along with her children were ironically set free in his will after he died. They were not allowed to be buried in the family plot and they were looked at as the big secret that everyone new about. Monticello was a three eye ball experience.
